Quarantine Eyes

You’ve heard of “bedroom eyes”, the “apple of my eye”, and the well known fact that eyes are “the window to the soul” but now in 2020 we have a new eye type:

The quarantine eye.

Might include such features as:

  • Redness (from too much screen time)
  • Muscle fatigue (from rolling of the eyeballs at silly memes)
  • Dry eye (from staring at your laptop wondering where all the time went and why all the work isn’t done...and not blinking enough)
  • Headaches (emerging out of the darkness of your bedroom office, squinting as you see sunlight for the first time in 67 days)

As your eye doctor we’d like to offer some helpful solutions for this stressful time.

  1. With the increased use of screens right now blue light blocking computer glasses can help save you from eye fatigue and eye strain. (This can also lessen headaches and reduce dry eye.)  This feature can be added to lenses if you are getting new frames or if you are replacing lenses in old frames.  Or you can get a dedicated pair of computer glasses for the sole purpose of being in front of a screen - this is great for people who use contacts, or are lucky enough to not require corrective lenses.
  2. Sunglasses!  Here in Washington summer is so close we can almost taste it.  And the wrinkles on our furrowed brows can FEEL it as the sun emerges from behind the clouds for the first time in 10 months.  We have lots of frames in store with amazing features such as polarized lenses so colors and the scenery pop.  We can also order you sunglass lenses in any of the frames we have so you can customize your look.  The sunglasses we carry offer full UV protection, and can help prevent cataracts and other eye disease from forming by protecting your eyes from harmful sun radiation.  They also alleviate the reflex to squint and lessen the less-than-popular furrowed brow look.
  3. The 20/20/20 rule.  Every 20 minutes look up from your screen/laptop/tiger king episode/child’s math schoolwork and look 20 feet beyond where you are (out a window works perfectly)  Continue to look for 20 seconds to give your eye muscles a break, allowing them to focus the muscles in your eye differently.  This will help to prevent eye strain and give your eye muscles a rest from holding one focused position.

We are all looking forward to going out into the world again.  Until it is safe to do so let’s ensure that you are covered the best way possible to prevent any eye issues from happening.

We are open for appointments so give us a call (206) 467-1006 and we can ensure that you are well taken care of.
